So what is Feng Shui? Feng Shui means “Wind Water” in Chinese and is used by many different cultures worldwide. Feng Shui is pronounced “Fung Shway” and is known as the art of placement. Feng Shui is a proactive approach to living.
Feng Shui is a study of science, art, psychology, biology and topography. Feng Shui is NOT a religion, cult or superstitious practice. Feng Shui is used today by people of many different cultures to design the best overall environments in which to live and work. People today spend an average of 80% to 90% of their time indoors. This is why creating a healthy environment to live and work in is so important. The goal is to create an empowering, harmonious, and friendlier space that makes your life easier, the end result is an optimum environment that supports your personal and business goals. Prosperity and feeling good is directly related to the flow of energy in your environment.
Feng Shui is used to identify positive and negative effects within an environment. Feng Shui’s goal is to achieve balance, harmony, comfort and enhance the occupants well-being and success. Psychologists have said and most people would agree “We are products of our environment.” Our homes and work environments have an enormous impact on our health, well being and state of mind. Many are familiar with the Winston Churchill quote, “We shape our dwellings; thereafter our dwellings shape us.” This is a profound architectural truth that applies to all buildings, public and private. In the beginning, buildings reflect the qualities of the people who design and construct them. Once built, the people who live and work in them take on the qualities of the buildings they inhabit.
Feng Shui has been used by leaders such as Hilton Hotels, Donald Trump, Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Tommy Hilfiger and top leading companies such as Virgin Airlines, Nike, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, Swiss Stock Exchange, and Coca-Cola, just to name a few.
Many Feng Shui schools practice and recognize common basic principles, such as, the balancing of yin and yang and the five elements in an environment. There are many Feng Shui approaches that at times conflict with each other so Feng Shui can be very confusing to many. One Feng Shui book will tell you to do this and they other one will say something totally opposite.
