So what is Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) and how can it help you in your environment?
The science of Psychoneuroimmunolgy (PNI) is a study of the relationships that exist between the central nervous system, the autonomic nervous system, the endocrine system, the immune system, and the mind. The science of PNI has shown that what we see within our environments affects our thoughts and beliefs which influence are heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, our immunity and ultimately all of our bodily functions. Your body’s biochemistry is heavily influenced by what you see in and around your environment, which in turn effects what you think, feel and believe. It has also been proven that negative thoughts and images create unhealthy neurotransmitters that can result in mental depression and illness. Continual negative environmental conditions such as clutter, sad or conflicting artwork and photo images placed in the environment, and negative self talk and beliefs will also deplete your current supply of healthy neurotransmitters. It is in our best interest to be proactive in our spaces, as all environmental messages have a cumulative effect on the body. Artwork that evokes positive feelings and thoughts for the individual can create more healthy neurotransmitters and help with the achievement of long term goals.
Look around your home or office and ask yourself how your wall artwork supports your long term goals. Is it meaningful and compelling to you specifically. If not, NOW maybe a great time to upgrade your wall artwork especially in the keys areas of your space you see often.
PNI has also shown through extensive research that inspiring images, which are specific to the client, can positively change the body’s biochemistry for the better.
Before I start any consult I sit down and talk with my clients in-depth about what their concerns and goals are. My goal as your Holistic Interior Design Expert or as your Feng Shui Expert is to ensure I align your environment in a way that supports you specifically to get you the best results. For example, if I am doing a consult for a family that has a child suffering from ADD that particular consultation focus and recommendations will be totally opposite compared to a consultation I provide to a client that is feeling constantly drained and depleted within their environment.
All my Holistic Interior Design and Feng Shui clients have my consulting expertise for 3 months with any service as they work through all changes I suggest to them. Many of my suggestions include the addition of key artwork or perhaps a central decor piece in their space. This is where I look heavily at the psychoneuroimmunolgy. When the client sends an artwork or decor image for my approval the first question I will ask them, once I have ensured visually there is no major elemental conflicts represented in the artwork , is how does this image or decor item make you feel? How does this artwork tie into their long term goals? Since every thought influences the production of neurotransmitters, placing positive symbols that evoke positive feelings in your environment will ultimately help you to have more positive thoughts and experiences, which in turn has a positive cumulative affect on your self esteem, well being and health.
