What is the wood element in Feng Shui? Wood is about growth, you can add wood elements to the area of the Bagua that have a dominant wood represented. The areas of the Bagua that can be enhanced by additional wood elements are the wealth, future and family areas in Western School Feng Shui (BTB). If you follow Traditional Classical School Feng Shui you will want to analyze the natal chart of the space and the facing direction to determine where it is best to add more wood elements.
Wood is used to stimulate upward growth, action and promote change. This plant image is a popular plant used indoors called a “corn plant”. It is a strong stalked plant and it’s botanical name is “Dracaena Massangeana Cane”. These plants can do great in low light homes or offices just ensure you do not over water them as they can be killed easily through over watering and get root rot. Water this plant well once every 7 to 12 days and that’s it. According to various NASA studies this particular plant is also very helpful in filtering out toxins from indoor air making for a healthier home or office. Make sure to be careful with any plant you bring into your home, as this particular plant, as well as many other plants can be potentially poisonous if ingested by your households pets. I posted a helpful article about poisonous plants to animals on my facebook page to keep my clients informed. Below are more tips on ways you can add or increase wood elements in your environment for balance.
- Wood’s message: growth and expansion
- Wood’s color: green, the color of plants symbolizes growth
- Wood’s shape: rectangular, columns, patterns vertical or horizontal
- Wood objects or material: trees, wood, wicker furniture, home decor made of wood,
- Wood’s texture: grainy, visual representation of cells
- Wood’s smell and taste: mint, rosemary the smell of freshness or newness
- Wood’s sound: Instruments that force air out like horns and require renewed breath
- Creative element is water (water feeds wood)
- Destructive element is metal (metal chops wood)
- Reducing element is fire (fire burns wood)
There are many varieties on money plants used in Feng Shui. Lucky Bamboo, Jade, Dracaena Massangeana Cane or a Braided Money Tree can do well placed on or near your working desk as a representation of business growth. I often use spiral lucky bamboo as it is very easy to care for and the spiral shape shows a more progressive energetic flow in a space. You can buy REAL SPIRAL BAMBOO online in a 10 pack bundle from Amazon just click HERE.
If your lifestyle does not allow for real plants I have placed some silk money tree plants below. A silk plant is still a representation of the wood element in a space. It is better to have a silk plant than no plants expressed in a space at all. Some of my clients admit they really feel they do not have a green thumb or have no time to take care of living plants, so a silk plant is the second best option.
Wood feeds and helps to create fire. Wood represents growth, creation and new beginnings. Use wood elements to deter laziness and stagnation. Additional wood elements can help if someone finds himself or herself involved with a new project as wood elements encourage flexibility and creativity. Too many wood elements can make some feel agitated, frustrated and nervous. If you feel this is happening for you add some additional metal and fire elements, as they will reduce the affects of wood.
Please keep in mind these are very general suggestions and there is always unique aspects of a space that may make these general applications not the best for you or your home or office specifically which is why an environment should always be assessed by a Professional Feng Shui Expert.

YELP CLIENT TESTIMONIAL from BRIANA HULL, in MERIDIAN, ID “Rochiel is AMAZING!! My older sister and her husband gave us an incredible gift; a Feng Shui consultation with Rochiel. Seeing as we are located in Idaho; we did a Skype consultation. It was almost as if she was walking thru our home with us. Rochiel was extremely detailed and thorough as we covered every inch. Since the initial SKYPE video chat walk thru of our home, we have communicated via text and MMS. This has been extremely handy when making decisions on new items and the placement of new and existing items. Rochiel’s response time has been wonderful. Whether I’m standing in a store trying to make a decision or at 1am when I’m moving things around…Rochiel has responded in a timely manner. Whether you are located in Las Vegas or located in another state or country, Don’t look any further; Rochiel is the BEST Feng Shui consultant on the planet!”
YELP CLIENT TESTIMONIAL from JEFF & DEVECIA VENUTO, FARMERS INSURANCE AGENCY in LAS VEGAS, NV “I was talking to my sister about Feng Shui a year ago. My husband and I were at a stagnant point in our life with respect to our business, kids failing grades and stressed relationships due to a blended family. A quick search on the internet, a phone call and the very next day we met Rochiel at our office for our first of (3) consults! After a couple hours at the office and our house we set very specific goals and with Rochiel’s excellent input, tips and suggestions a game plan was put in place.
One year later the kids grades improved and they both moved on successfully to middle school and high school. Our relationships improved tremendously. In addition, business is booming! We own a very successful Farmers Insurance agency. Jeff is on track to become 2015 Life Agent of The Year and we bought a new home that has truly made our family so happy, we would rather be home than anywhere else. YES, we brought Rochiel into the new home prior to purchase to be sure it was the right decision and received her stamp of approval!
Jeff and I highly, highly recommend Rochiel to anyone for both a business and home consults. I promise it is well worth the low cost, time and your commitment. She has certainly changed our lives for the better!”
